旭川冬まつりは、北海道で2番目に大きな冬まつりです。1つ目は「さっぽろ雪まつり」です。このお祭りは2月初旬に始まり、さっぽろ雪まつりとほぼ同じ時期に開催されます。そのため、この時期に北海道に来れば、両方のお祭りに行くことができます。両都市間は、電車で約80分です。

いつもの旭川では、最大の雪像、音楽などのステージ、そして花火を楽しむことができます。

1994年には、「韓国要塞」の雪上ステージが、建設された最大の雪上構造物としてギネスブックに登録された。
