This is the underground tunnel that connects Sapporo Station to Odori Park. From there, it branches out to lots of other underground tunnels you can walk through, including one named Pole Town Underground Walkway, which connects to Susukino, the main drinking and dining area in Sapporo. Others tunnels connect to tourist spots as well, like the Sapporo TV Tower. You will find the main subway system, cafes, restaurants, shops and exhibition spaces along different parts of it, all underground. The tunnels almost connect to Sapporo Factory as well.

If it is -11 degrees Celsius outside and windy in winter this underground passage will sure become your best friend. It connects the most important parts of the city. It stretches north-south from the Sapporo JR Station all the way to Susukino but the straight walkway also diverts into many lateral branches, all full of food courts, shops, malls and it even connects to some major buildings. It can be a bit confusing at first, even if you have a map as you are underground.

Throughout the year, the walkway sees a lot of activity about 20,000 people a day on weekdays and 40,000 a day on the weekend. If you’re interested in renting a space for an event, you can easily reach the organizers via their website. They offer four spaces, each with its own size and pricing. The smallest, is 24 square meters, costing ¥7,200 per day on weekdays and ¥10,800 per day on weekends. The largest is 300 square meters, costing ¥150,000 per day on weekdays and ¥180,000 per day on weekends or public holidays but given the constant flow of pedestrians, it serves as an excellent venue for exhibitions or events.
