📍 Location & Access
The Sapporo Regional Immigration Bureau is located near Odori Park, on the west side (Odori Nishi 12). It’s just a short walk from Nishi-Juitchome Station (Tozai Subway Line).
- Exit from Exit 1, cross the park diagonally, and walk past the fountain.
- The bureau is inside a large gray building called the Sapporo No.3 Government Complex (第3合同庁舎), on the 7th floor.
Free parking is available if you’re driving, though space is limited.
🕒 Hours & Best Times to Go
- Weekdays only (closed on weekends and national holidays)
- Office hours: 9:00am – 12:00pm, 1:00pm – 4:00pm
- The office closes for lunch between 12:00 and 1:00pm, so mornings are usually the best time to visit.
Expect waiting times — especially in the afternoon or at the start of the week.
🛂 What You Can Do Here
If you need help with your visa, need to extend it, or just want to learn about the rules, it’s best to go here. Most of the information is written in Japanese, so you might need a translator.
This is the main immigration office for Hokkaido. You’ll likely visit it for:
- Visa applications and renewals (student, work, spouse, permanent residency, etc.)
- Re-entry permits
- Status changes
- Document submissions and pickups
There are also branch offices in:
- Asahikawa
- New Chitose Airport
- Tomakomai
- Kushiro
But for most long-term visa procedures, you'll need to come to the Sapporo office.
🧾 What to Bring
Make sure to bring:
- Your passport
- Your residence card (在留カード)
- All required documents/forms
- Any relevant supporting documents (e.g., employer letters, tax forms, etc.)
If you're picking up a visa, you’ll need to purchase a revenue stamp (収入印紙) to pay for it. These typically cost ¥3,000–¥6,000, depending on the visa type. You can buy the special stamps at the convenience store on the B1 basement floor of the building.
🧑💼 Language Support
English is limited, so it’s a good idea to:
- Bring a Japanese-speaking friend or translator, especially for more complex procedures
- Review and fill out your forms in advance, using guides or online translations
There is a small help counter near the entrance. The staff here can assist with basic directions or forms, but they mostly speak Japanese.
💡 Tips
- Double-check your documents before visiting
- If you're missing a form or document, Sapporo City Hall and the Central Ward Office are nearby and easy to walk to
- You can photocopy documents in the SeikoMart convenience store (B1).
- Photo services are not available here, so use a photobooth or photo studio. Just make sure the image sizes are correct though.
