The forecast of Japan’s cherry blossom season is published by Japan Meteorological Corporation (JMC) and the private weather service Weathermap. The cherry blossoms (sakura) start blooming around the same time almost every year. Sometimes the dates are just a few days earlier or later than the times written below.
2022 Blossom Timing
In Sapporo, the first blossoms will be out around April 26th. The cherry blossoms will be at their best between April 29th and May 6th. Usually about 4 to 11 days after they start blooming. They bloom a little later in Niseko as there is still snow there

Places With Cherry Blossom Around Hokkaido

Monument of Friendship between Japan and England for Cherry Tree Appreciation
It was erected in May 2016 as a testament to the exchange between Japan and the UK through cherry blossoms.


Hakodate Hachimangu Shrine
This shrine stands in a quiet, bracing environment surrounded by the forest of Mt. Hakodate.


Miharashi Park, Kosetsuen Garden
A scenic garden for gazing of far into the park. A place to appreciate flowers.


Aunji Temple
Moved here around 1617 to protect the demon gate of Matsumae Castle (the area to north east of one’s position believed to be unlucky).


Maruyama Park
Maruyama Park which has been loved for a long time.

Matusmae Park
Hokkaido’s most famous area for Sakura (cherry blossoms) chosen as one of the 100 famous sakura locations in Japan.

Kouzenji Temple

Especially cherry blossoms and autumn leaves are wonderful.

Furano Asahigaoka Park
One of the One-Hundred Views of Japan. Place famous for cherry blossoms.

Aobagaoka Park
It is a historic park with old trees 300 years old. It is famous as a cherry blossom park where as many as 1,000 cherry trees were planted.

Ukimido Park
“Ukimido” located in Ukimido Park on the northwest coast of Lake Toya, at the end of the cape overhanging Toya Lake.

Oniushi Park
In Ainu language meaning “place with plenty of trees” meaning. It is a cherry blossoms famous places.

Usu Zenkoji Temple
Hokkaido’s oldest venerable temple with a history of more than 1100 years.

Hekirichi Jinya
The Edo Tokugawa Shogunate The Hokkaido Matsumae clan set at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate in 1855 (a hall of the clan, office).
